Take Ten with Armada In the Dusk
Armada in the Dusk has a massive couple of shows coming up to round off the year: Thursday, December 8 at The Hi Fi Bar (125 Boundary Street, West End) and Saturday, December 10 in Nambour supporting Sienna Skies at the QCWA Hall (10 Short Street, Nambour), courtesy of our good friends, Rikochetz Events. We hit up their drummer, Tristan Coombes, with ten questions about the band.
How did you come up with the name, Armada in the Dusk?
Tristan Coombes: The word armada came from the back of a transformers episode and we ended up liking it, so we worked around it and came up with Armada in the Dusk.
What are your band Influences?
Tristan Coombes: We are really influenced with Motionless in White , Linkin Park and Still Remains.
What is your favourite venue?
Tristan Coombes: Venue for us depends on the show; if kids are having a sick night it makes the venue good for us, but as far as favourite venue it would be ether The Fort (when The Fort was still putting on shows) or Shed 5.
Do you have any pre-gig rituals?
Tristan Coombes: We use to do alot with group talks before we went on stage, but now I just sit down during sound check and make sure I’m in the right state of mind, putting everything out of my head, and make sure nothing gets in the way of performing my best at every show.
Why should we listen to your band?
Tristan Coombes: We don’t force what we believe down your throat. We don’t care if you’re a boy, girl, Christian, Muslim, white or black. We aren’t doing this to be famous. We are in this band for the love of music and sharing what we love to do with everyone at the shows. We will always take time out to talk to our fans, without them, we wouldn’t be able to play shows and do what we love doing.
Where do you want to tour next?
Tristan Coombes: I want to tour anywhere we have fans. We have people all around Australia buying CDs. I want to play a show in every town we can.
What’s been the reaction to your latest album release?
Tristan Coombes: The reaction to the CD has been amazing! I don’t know how else I can explain it. Pre-order sales, as well as at shows, is crazy. The amount of people coming to shows to sing along to our new songs since releasing the CD has surprised all of us. We have gained fans all around Australia since the release, always asking us to come play a show near them. So, it couldn’t have gone better.
What can fans expect from an Armada in the Dusk live show?
Tristan Coombes: A live show for Armada In The Dusk is full of energy. The more energy we get in the room the more we put to into a live show. We always give 100%. Sick or not, we always like to put on a show.
Favourite local band?
Tristan Coombes: My personal favourite local band would be All My Friends At Sea from the Sunny Coast.
Finally, what message do you want to send to fans coming to your final shows of 2011?
Tristan Coombes: These last shows are for us to have fun! Go nuts, jump on stage, steal the mic, give our guitarist high fives. It’s our last shows for this year, so help us send them off with a bang!
Thank you to Tristan for taking time out to talk to us and once again, you can catch Armada in the Dusk this Thursday, December 8 at The Hi-Fi Bar along with The Endless Pandemic, As Paradise Falls and Torn Asunder. It kicks off at 8:00 pm and entry is $15.
